This work, which remains one of my favourites, is an allegorical portrait composition, where I indulged my love of the baroque aesthetic, symbolism and mixed media technique. I love creating dark mysterious spaces in paintings and drawings, as they become landscapes which the imagination can inhabit.
The vanitas theme, classically used to symbolically allude to the transience of life, is here combined with a portrait of a young girl.
